We believe that people like to learn new things and if we make it easy and fun, you will want to learn about any place that you visit. You might be at home and there are things nearby that you will see sometime…and after 20 years you still have not. You may be traveling on a day trip and you do not have any specific sites in mind but you would like to know what is there. Or you may be on a bucket list trip where you have done a lot of research. But you cannot know what you do not know. Often, there are hidden gems right near you…if only you knew about them.
GeoSites is founded on the principle that if we make it effortless to find historic sites, you will go. You can personalize by filtering for your interests or simply show you everything around you. You get to decide based on how much time you have and your mood.
The founder has visited more than 50 countries and loves history and photography. He has planned many trips, both solo and family, each presenting different approaches. Our algorithm matches you to things near you with confirmed GPS coordinates, which is particularly helpful when driving young children who always seem to be hungry as you drive through the French countryside, looking for obscure battlefields, saying, “no wait, it is around here somewhere.”
Research shows that for a long trip, people will spend 50-100 hours and visit hundreds of websites and social media postings. Although it is fun to explore, it leads to research fatigue and a lot of wasted time. With GeoSites, you may spend even more time researching as instead of frustration you will be excited as you discover more and more great places to go that match your interests.
GeoSites collects, curates and validates information from numerous places. We geotag every site and make it easily findable through a map, image, text search….any way you want to find it. You do not have to sift through numerous unreliable or fake reviews.
As we build up each country, we will publish a curated list and we seek corrections and additions. No one knows your town better than you. Contact us to add your local favorites. We will then confirm details. If you send us photos, we will make sure of proper attribution.
